This is just not right.
Having optional grind titles for prestige is dubious, but, nothing that affects in-game so you can say it's entirely up to the individual. But now ANet has linked the new skills to one of the biggest grind tracks in the game!
Everyone is talking about these new Faction skills and saying how imba they are, but often they are making the mistake of looking at the top level abilities. The reality is that many players will never see any of these skills, and the vast majority that do will have them only at the lowest level.
Lets look at the grind
1 Supporter of the Kurzicks/Luxons 100,000
2 Friend of the Kurzicks/Luxons 250,000
3 Companion of the Kurzicks/Luxons 400,000
4 Ally of the Kurzicks/Luxons 550,000
5 Sentinel of the Kurzicks/Luxons 875,000
6 Steward of the Kurzicks/Luxons 1,200,000
7 Defender of the Kurzicks/Luxons 1,850,000
8 Warden of the Kurzicks/Luxons 2,500,000
9 Bastion of the Kurzicks/Luxons 3,750,000
10 Champion of the Kurzicks/Luxons 5,000,000
11 Hero of the Kurzicks/Luxons 7,500,000
12 Savior of the Kurzicks/Luxons 10,000,000
Now remember, this is for PvE skills, I don't know the most efficient way of grinding these points are, but I don't want to play PvP for it. I tried some FA last night, faction just comes in too slow. I can see myself faming level 1, but just look at how high that track goes!
I know there are PvE ways, lets look at that. I believe in hard mode you get 10 for a kill with the bonus (damned money grabbing priests), well top level on this track is a Million mobs to kill in hard mode! Compare that to the 6,000 HM mobs needed to grind Lightbringer. Does anyone fancy maxing out Holy Lightbringer 160 times?
Surely these are the hardest skills to aquire in the game, let alone get them to even a mid-level.
I really hope ANet has a rethink on this grind. I can see why they did it, the tracks are there so it's logical, and certainly Factions could do with some player incentives. But the scale and levels of grind are simply too high, and too high by a massive amount.
Please ANet, cut this grind, where are your "casual player" credentials now? In a steaming pile of tattered rags after this update

I think part of the reason why the Faction titles are higher then the SS/LB titles is because they are account wide. You have to do with Nightfall titles per character, whereas you do the Kurzick/Luxon ones and you never had to do it again (thank the gods...)
I imagine that they're might well soon be a double faction weekend like there was for SS/LB a few months back. I also think it would be nice to grandfather in all the faction already donated (even for amber) towards the title...that'd get most people up to R1, if not R2 immediately.
As for the scrolls, hummm. It's possible. Doesn't quite seem to be the most...elegant solution though.

Except that the SS and LB titles max out at 50'000. The Kurzick/Luxon titles max out at 10'000'000. Even if we assume that people only spend faction on double rewards its still 100 times the grind on the SS and LB titles. And the SS title is progressed pretty far during the normal course of the game. But the factions titles are only at level one after completing that campaign on 8 characters if we assume that its all spent on earning double rewards (instead of pre-update jade/amber which earned nothing), all chapters owned, all slots used for a PvE character and that people didn't just max out the faction and leave it there to avoid refarming it for the befriending quest on their next character.

Yup.
They should be 10 times, one pear each type of character, not 100, that is, 1Million, not 10million. 2Million max, if we count 10 PvE and 10 PvP.

Even at around level 3-4, those skills are much better than regular skills. Level 3 is 400k faction, so only need 200k faction earned. Lut runs take at most 2 minutes each at 400 faction, so 12k an hour, so 17 hours to get level 3 kurzick title. Not too bad...
